Swimming
Rekawa’s beach really is one of the most beautiful in southern Sri Lanka. Its spectacular, deserted habitat provides undisturbed nesting grounds for up to five species of sea turtle (predominantly Feb–July). Please be aware however, that we strongly advise against sea bathing within the immediate vicinity of the hotel due to big waves and unpredictable currents. A nearby rock-pool and much safer beaches are very easily accessed by walking 15/20 minutes, by bicycle or short ‘tuk-tuk’ ride. Guests regularly tell us that Rekawa Beach is the most wonderful beach they have ever seen and are quite happy to make do with our modest hotel pool or to go a short distance for a swim!

Buckingham Place welcomes quiet, well behaved children 10 years old and upwards by prior arrangement and we offer 1 x bedroom into which (up to) 2 extra beds can be installed on request. Each extra bed is charged at US$45 per night including breakfast.
We respectfully ask parents to consider the tranquil nature of the hotel and the quiet enjoyment of others. Buckingham Place is a popular choice of nature lovers, quiet couples and those in search of quiet relaxation and a peaceful dining experience.
We also ask parents to ensure their child does not use noise emitting electronic games or devices in common areas of the hotel including the restaurant. Although we would like to welcome children of all ages and have previously done so, we have found the hotel, restaurant and garden to be unsuitable for the very young.
Parents are reminded that wildlife, our feral pony ‘Ginger’ and areas of the hotel can present dangers even to a 10 year old, particularly in view of our tropical jungle setting and remote access location. On arrival we will discuss your child’s eating preferences rather than offer Kids Menus. Please also note; we do not offer special facilities such as child minders and swimming pool water slides nor can we entertain your child for you!
The hotel and surrounding area provide a superb opportunity to introduce children (10 years upwards) to nature free from modern distractions such as electronic games, TV and the internet.

Special Needs:
Our Easier Access Suite has a small air-conditioned ‘aide’ room. Your aide would share your entrance door and bathroom but in all other respects your privacy can be maintained. Spacious bathing facilities; lower sink/easy taps, plus, commode support rails are all provided for. This suite is the same as others and includes a 6ft x 6ft 6” fixed double bed. Suite layout allows wheelchair access throughout and onto the veranda and tends to suit guests with modest mobility restrictions. We naturally provide assistance when asked although we are untrained to do so. Whilst we offer this suite and easier access facilities at the restaurant there are some uneven surfaces. Nonetheless, the hotels owner often uses a wheelchair himself! Daily breakfast at for your aide is free and the suite plus extra bed if required are charged at normal rates.
